Prasanth Gulfu is a renowned photographer from Kerala, India and has proved his mettle in various fields of photography.

A graduate in Business Administration, Prasanth had started seeking his perspective in photography and visual storytelling from his college days. His eye for the creative details in people, emotions, places and more have given astonishing images for the world to savour. Prasanth is always ready to experiment in different genres of photography using all kinds of gear made available.

Over the years, I have travelled across the world, finding the perfect frames with a thousand stories to tell. My journey as a photographer is one with all kinds of adventures and my eyes have always searched for a unique perspective in everything.

It is the fascination for detailing and the hidden textures of things around us that made me venture into Macro photography. There are a zillion different species of insects and tiny organisms around us. But I never realized how marvellous they looked, until I focused them in front of a macro lens. A couple of years into this less explored field of photography, I’m fueled to take the high road that leads to the finest frames. And GF120mmF4 by FUJIFILM is for sure the best companion.

Detailing is key in macro photography and focusing on tiny moving objects becomes a real task. And the autofocus system of GF120mmF4 makes it feel like a cakewalk.

Using GFX100S with the GF120mmF4 macro lens gives an absolutely new perspective to my frames, from when I used full-frame cameras for my shoots. The large sensor and high resolution enable the option of cropping and image without losing any bit of detail. This makes a macro photographer excited to capture more and more.

To seize the best frames of living beings in their natural conditions, it is important to have a handy camera. This will make it easier to capture stunning handheld shots. Medium format cameras are generally on the heavier side, hence making it difficult in certain situations. But Fujifilm’s GFX cameras are the lightest medium format cameras and it gives me the freedom to place frames in the most unlikely places.v

Adding a macro extension adapter just elevates the performance of GF120mmF4. To get 1:1 magnification, use a 45g macro extension adapter with GF120mmF4 lens. I have experienced how the performance of this lens is elated to another level using a macro extension adapter.

Now for the cherry on top! At times the weather becomes a villain for a photographer, especially one that engages in the depth of nature. And in my case, there are quite a lot of insects and small animals that become active during the peak of the monsoon, summer, etc. I have always been so conscious about my gear getting wet while on an expedition. But not anymore. The GF120mmF4 is fully weather-resistant and lets me shoot in all conditions. I can fearlessly walk into a waterfall or heavy rain to find the special ones in their natural habitat.

In macro photography, the subject chosen plays a huge role in bringing out the best in a frame. A living being will surely add life to each frozen moment. An insect in front of my macro lens is very much similar to the people I photograph. Some may be shy, some scared and some very forth-coming. I must also admit that each time a new tiny model steps in front of my lens, its texture, colours, structure and behaviour amazes me. The first time I saw a common dragonfly in front of my macro lens, I was blown away. They are more than “common”, with intricate headgear, texture and all. 

I am so happy that Fujifilm is designing gears that never holds back, but pushes us to capture more. The GF120mm is a lens that I am planning to carry with me in my expeditions across different terrains in the world and bring out more from the colourful, exotic world of macrophotography. And I urge all macro photographers to give Fujifilm’s, ‘More than full-frame” experience a try.
